Who I am
My name is Paul Cammack. I retired in 2015, after teaching at the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, and City University Hong Kong, but I continue to publish - most recently, The Politics of Global Competitiveness (Oxford University Press, 2022). I consider myself a classical Marxist. You can find most of my articles and working papers on academia.edu, along with all the reviews from this site.
What this site is for
I post reviews of recent and not so recent books in the broad field of mainstream and critical international/global political economy. Each book is rated on a worth-reading scale of 1 to 100, and a recommendation to buy it means that I think it is worth a permanent place in your library. I now aim to review between six and ten books a year, selected from what I am reading at the moment, and what I think is worth noticing from the past. For the first six years, I kept separate lists (bookshelf and bin), but as these did not cover all books reviewed over time, I have now replaced these with a comprehensive author index.
